Class is out

Looking back on the semester, I must say it was a good one. School was not easy but it has gone well. My internship with Ensign Peak was very beneficial. I am now Bloomberg certified. I am knee deep in looking for an internship this summer and that has been taking up a lot of time. But I know it will be worth it. I also now have a girlfriend and we have been dating for almost a month. Can’t complain about that! My family seems to be doing well. I will be flying back to Austin in exactly a week and I can’t wait to see them. Hard work always pays off and I feel that I have done my best in allocating my time for all aspects of my life.

Cleaning Checks

Cleaning checks are a necessary evil. It amazes me to find such nasty things in the fridge after only cleaning it out 2 weeks before hand. I had to clean the bathroom this week and that is never fun. However, I call it a necessary evil because honestly, if we didn’t have a deadline our apartment would probably never get cleaned. This week our bathroom wasn’t too dirty so after I finished the bathroom, I walked into the kitchen and saw the huge pile of dishes. Feeling bad for my roommate who wasn’t even awake yet, I filled the dishwasher for him. Was it a big deal? No. Did I get a thank you? No. I don’t even think he knew I did them but that’s not the point. Helping someone out always makes one feel better. It was a good start to the weekend. Oh and the cleaning check guy looked at our apartment for about 2 minutes and then we talked football for 15.

I Love Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving break has been great. I didn’t go back to Texas but I’m making the most of my time here in Utah. Thanksgiving morning I woke up at 5:30 a.m. and headed up to Layton to pick up my cousin for some football. He has a bunch of friends he grew up with and we had our own turkey bowl. It was awesome and I even scored a few touchdowns! Then I drove over to my Aunt and Uncle’s house. I hadn’t seen some of those cousins in a long time and it was great to catch up with them. The food was amazing. The seven pies were really good too. Then I drove home just in time to see Texas beat A&M. A great way to top off an amazing day! I must say, life is good and there’s not a day that passes that I don’t thank God for all that I have.

Good to Great

It was another great week. School and work have completely consumed my life but it is always good when school and work become fun. I have started reading “Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap… and Others Don’t” for my business management class. The class requires us to read a finance book and honestly if it wasn’t for this assignment, I probably would not have read this book. I have enjoyed it so far. There are many good companies in the world but only a few great companies. The book, written by Jim Collins, asks the question; what makes a company great? Thousands of hours of analysis later, he saw that great companies have humble, driven leaders, focus on what they are good at, and use their resources around them for their benefit. There is nothing new to these concepts but often times people forget about the little things. I hope to have a great company one day!

A Superduper Weekend

My weekend was fantastic! Superduper! Ever since the half marathon I ran, I have had little motivation to get back into moving any muscles in my body. But finally I went to the gym and ran/lifted weights. It felt so good but I am so sore!  My brother helped me get new tires for my baby (’99 Camry:) and then in return I helped him with his car. For some reason, working on cars always takes twice as long as you expect. College football was crazy as usual. TCU went onto the blue turf and beat Boise State and then Oregon killed Stanford. The Longhorns lost. I don’t want to talk about it. But BYU won big! I also went on a date with my girlfriend. (Official as of 11/12/11.) We made CafĂ© Rio burritos, went putt-putt golfing, and then topped off the evening with some fried Oreos. Always a good time!

Pull!

It was an epic weekend! I am not one of those guys who own a ton of guns and I’ll go as far to say that I have shot very few guns in my lifetime but this past weekend we went and shot clay pigeons. I have been out of Boy Scouts for a few years now and I had not shot a gun for many years. Needless to say, I was a bit nervous about my abilities. But we went out and we had a blast. I must say I surprised myself. I hit about 50% of the clay pigeons that were thrown up which is about 50% better than what I thought I would shoot. I enjoyed shooting but by no means do I want to go out a buy a small arsenal for my own personal enjoyment. I’ll just let my friends buy the guns for now and shoot them.

Halloween Half Marathon

I ran the Halloween Half Marathon with Chase Trejo today. I’m still not sure why we decided to run the half marathon because neither one of us really like to run but I think it’s so we can say that we did it. The most I had run at one time was six miles just last Saturday. Anyways, it was freezing this morning and my arms/hands were numb for about the first seven miles but they warmed up. I only stopped and walked to drink water at the water stations. I had some good music going and in just under two hours Chase and I finished the race! It was awesome but I have never been so sore in my life! My calves can hardly support my weight. Most people say that once you run one race then you crave more. I for one don’t plan on running for a very long time (unless it’s for a sport). Halloween Half = Work done!
